WHAT'S HAPPENING?

Last week’s 40 year reunion of the Turners Beach Football Club was an outstanding success with many a yarn told during the afternoon and evening regaling all past glories at the Beach. Many thanks to the interstate visitors for making the effort and I feel sure they enjoyed the day, as well as the many local and statewide players, coaches, etc.

Funny how people’s memories of events change over the years, but all agreed the funniest moment in our illustrious club history is probably the Wiggers/Reynolds “incident” closely followed by the Kero Heater in the Tin Shed door explosion. Many, many thanks to the tireless organizers and behind the scene people who put the day and evening together.

As the 2011 NWFA roster series comes to a close today at Rosebery, the Reserves will be looking to finish their season on a good note while the Seniors are finding form heading into finals.

Last week the Vale proved too strong in the early game running out convincing 13 goal winners. The usual suspects Flops, Cooky, Hamma and Jacko, gave their all but were overrun by a taller and stronger opposition. Blood and Belly were welcome returns and Ash entertained the crowd many times with a trade mark blind turn into several defenders, causing whistleblower razor Ray to call holding the ball, followed by a 50m penalty for verbal abuse. Hoping to redeem himself on a strong lead to a Belly bullet resulted in a low down chest mark 25 out dead in front but worse was to come after he scrubbed the ball along the ground bringing up a divot with his boot and using his shin to kick the ball. The sad news for the day was a nasty ankle injury to B & F favorite Cooky late in the game.

The Seniors took little time to wrap up the four points with a devastating first half. Jake had a blinder pulling down countless big marks along with precision kicking for goal in a standout BOG performance. Coggy and Dallas roamed both ends of the ground racking up possessions at will while Brady showed his skills and his unselfishness was a pleasure to watch. The reunion was held early on the ground with Singo, Bretty and Dick all showing their talent with eight goals between them. Credit must go to all the players who returned to help the club out while regulars recover from injuries, or work commitments.

Handy tips for the week:

1. Forth Reserves to be the main danger to Motton Preston
2. Martini Magic to win the Caulfield Cup
3. Rioli to kick first goal in Hawthorn v Port game.
4. Be careful what you ask for as some jobs need more skill than others especially when asked for at 2.45am on a Sunday morning.
